The Asean Paediatric Federation is the professional paediatric organisation of the South East Asian nations. Its membership currently consists of 8 of the ten member countries of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN).
We are a compact group represented by the national paediatric associations/societies of the member countries, working towards the betterment of Paediatric Practice and child health through collaboration and cooperation amongst the paediatric fraternity in the region.
and objectives of the APF mirror those of ASEAN itself, while focusing on the health,
wellness and development of the children in this region. South East Asia
has many unique cultural and social characteristics that enhances to the
interest and value of research and cooperation between member countries, to
improve the overall practice of child health.
Singapore is proud and honoured to host the very successful 14th Asean Paediatric Congress in April 2011 and also chair this esteemed organisation for the next 3 years. We hope to continue to build on the strong rapport and close friendship amongst our member countries and further establish and enhance interaction and collaboration.
Over the next 3 years, the plans for the organisation includes reinstating the Asean Paediatric Federation travelling scholarship to enhance training of paediatricians and the exchange of knowledge and expertise amongst our member countries; identify and develop strategic areas of research in child health in our region; develop more opportunities for interaction and communication to strengthen the bond between our neighbours.
I would like to thank my predecessor for handing over such a robust organisation and I look forward to working closely with all member countries, to bring the paediatric fraternity in the ASEAN region to greater strength and prominence in the regional and international paediatric arena.
